How to Use Glow-in-the-Dark Powders

If you want an easy way to make your art projects glow - glow powders are the way to go!  Our glow in the dark powders can be mixed into a wide variety of clear and transparent mediums, including epoxy resin, acrylic or oil paint medium, crafting glues (such as Mod Podge), many different clear/gloss/glaze clear coats, clear nail polish or acrylic powder for nails, and much more!  Here are a few ways you can create with glow powders, but we encourage you to explore different ways to use glow powders. Tips for painting with glow paints

USE ON FABRIC (with fabric medium)

Hidden Bigfoot hat created by @GalaxyWear

Glow in the dark acrylic paint can be applied to a variety of fabrics. This means you can add glowing details to your favorite tshirt, hat, hoodie, shoes, denim jacket, patches and much more!

  1. SELECT your transparent fabric/textile medium
  2. ADD 7 grams glow powder for every fluid ounce of transparent textile medium (approximately 1:4 ratio powder to medium)
  3. MIX glow powder and transparent medium thoroughly
  4. PAINT designs you would like to see during the day with regular colored fabric paints.
  5. APPLY 2-3 coats of glow powder and textile medium mixture to create hidden glowing details; letting dry between coats
  6. CHARGE with sunlight or UV light
  7. REVEAL in a dark room after being charged
Pro Tips from @GalaxyWear: When using the glow pigment on fabric, mix it with the high-quality Jacquard colorless textile medium. Once finished painting the design, heat set at a high temperature which makes the glow pigment permanent and machine washable. You can also use a fixative medium from Jacquard if painting hats or an item that cannot be heat set.

Glow Powder Pro Tips: We typically recommend using 7 grams of powder for each fluid ounce of the medium. This ratio is designed to give your project the brightest and longest-lasting glow. However, there is room for experimentation if you wish to use more or less glow powder.

You cannot mix our glow powders in water.  Our glow powders are encapsulated and not water soluble, which means that they will sink to the bottom when mixed with water.

Make sure any medium you use is fairly viscous so your glow powder does not settle out.  Also, it is important that your medium is transparent or clear so that you are able to charge your glow powder with UV light or sunlight and so the glowing effect is not hindered by opaque mediums.
